GAY WRESTLER DARREN YOUNG SLAMS WWE TOUR OF UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Darren Young has criticized the WWE for its three-day tour of the United Arab Emirates, where gay sex is illegal.

WWE decided not to take the openly gay wrestler to Abu Dhabi for his own safety.

'Why do we bring the best entertainment into a country [sic] like Abu Dhabi and they look down upon women and gays? I get it! #MillionsofDollars,' he tweeted on Tuesday (10 February) night.

Within minutes, Young deleted the tweets, seemingly at the behest of WWE, and replaced them with the following posts:

'My freedom of speech is gone. Gone but not forgotten.
'I feel like no none has my back and it upsets me. The struggle is real. I’m human.'

Fans and several WWE Superstars, including Lance Storm and Sean Waltman, offered their support.

Within hours of the tweets, WWE released the following statement:
'WWE does not discriminate against individuals regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation, and we continue to proudly support Fred Rosser (aka WWE Superstar Darren Young) for being open about his sexuality.

'Unfortunately, WWE cannot change cultures and laws around the world, and thus we did not send Fred Rosser to the United Arab Emirates for our upcoming events for his own protection.

'WWE also fully supports Fred Rosser’s right to express his views on personal social media accounts rather than WWE’s corporate platforms.'

WWE WRESTLER: COMING OUT HAS MADE ME THE HAPPIEST I'VE EVER BEEN

A World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star who came out as gay last year has said doing so made him the “happiest he’s ever been”.

Now, speaking to Huffington Post, Young said: “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and life has been good to me. I perform for the greatest company in the world, WWE, and I’m happily in love with my partner, Nicki. He makes me smile, supports me in everything I do and keeps me grounded.

“It was the final step on the journey to self-acceptance, and I’m glad I can say now that I truly love myself. I’ve grown so much as a person over the past year, and I hope that sharing my experience will encourage others to follow their own path.

“People who are struggling with coming out often ask me for advice, and, in my opinion, the best first step you can take is coming out to those who are closest to you. The most painful experience was hiding my true self from those I loved. I can honestly say that coming out to my inner circle was the best thing I’ve ever done.”

He continued: “I don’t expect everyone to embrace equality overnight, but we are making great progress… Coming out has instilled in me a sense of confidence that I’ve never felt before, and I’m happy to have full control over my life without fear of disapproval. I don’t need people in my life to bring me down.”

WWE released a statement after Young came out, stating that it was “proud” of him for doing so.

WWE CHAMP DARREN YOUNG, 'LIVING THE DREAM' WITH HIS BOYFRIEND

WWE superstar Darren Young posed with his boyfriend of two years, Niccolo "Nick" Villa, for a profile in the new issue of People, out Friday.

"I was terrified of losing friends, losing my job, just everything," he tells the magazine of life before he told a TMZ reporter he was gay. "I had no idea what would happen if I came out... There came a point in my life where I just wasn't happy living a double life."

Now forever known as the first openly gay pro wrestler, Darren — Fred Douglas Rosser III outside the ring — says he's been accepted by WWE management, fans, and colleagues.

"They all embraced me," he says, "and that was just shocking to me. I truly love them. It was such a relief. I'm not hiding anymore and I'm living the dream."
