GOOGLE GOES GAY FOR SOCHI

Google has drawn attention to the plight of LGBTI Russians by putting a special gay pride rainbow graphic on its home page.

The rainbow graphic has bands in the colors of the gay pride flag with drawings of athletes competing in Winter Olympic sports such as skiing, ice hockey, bob sledding and snow boarding.

Below Google’s search bar the company has posted Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter which deals with the principle of non-discrimination.

‘The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play,’ Principle Six reads.

Principle Six has been adopted by the Principle Six Campaign aimed at highlighting Russia’s poor record on LGBTI rights and aims to funnel funds to LGBTI rights groups in Russia.

We must all raise our voices against attacks on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex people,’ Moon said.

'We must oppose the arrests, imprisonments and discriminatory restrictions they face,' he added.
