¡NO FEMS!

The proliferation of gay dating profiles that feature a headless torso alongside a description of ‘no fems’ is one the most depressing aspects of modern gay culture. For me, it’s doubly troubling because so many gay men feel that it is just about preference when it is about so much more. When are we going to uncomfortable about promoting and advertising ignorance so freely?

Of course, none of this is really new. We have been pontificating over the whole “masc4masc” thing for a while now and gay men in my opinion are simply just overcompensating for their queerness, because on some level, they see their queerness as negative and that their sexual orientation makes them a ‘sissy’ by default.”

Sadly many gay men need to be seen as ‘straight acting’ so they can be desired by a large demographic of gay men, hoping to embody these traits of the heterosexual male in their gay lifestyle.

I get that many gay men who are about that Masc4Masc 'lifestyle' let us know straight off the bat who they are, but do you really want/need such a man in your life?

What are your thoughts on guys you write “no fems” or “masc4masc” on their dating profiles?

  1. I believe that they are looking for something that is only superficial, how a person acts instead of who they are. I feel like they are not worthy of me because they are not real.

  3. It will be a long time before we get over this. Men gay and straight have been subtly taught to hate women, except for the appeal for mother and wives. Thus we have been taught that even the slightest bit of acting like a woman or weakness is deemed feminine. If you want to cripple the most masculine thinking man, tell him he has feminine ways and he will be shut down for a week. There are so many masculine gay men who are hard in the living room, but love to bitch out in the bed. I think also a lot of gay men do not want to be read to be gay and if they date do not want their date to give a clue as to their sexuality. again male sexual insecurity. It a long and complicated issue. One that will take more space than allowed on this blog trust me. We have all been hypocrites when we encounter our more fem Gay brothers in public. They take a lot of heat and abuse many others would not dare expose themselves to and I give them a lot of props and respect.

  4. Maybe we don't want flying fairies for boyfriends..I'm gay and I like men because I'm attracted to the masculinity in a man.. oxymorons aren't attractive.
