The Democrats are stepping up the fight ahead of the Presidential election… by releasing a music video.

Hillary Clinton became the party’s official Presidential nominee last night, launching the final stretch of the Presidential election – as both Trump and Clinton have now been confirmed as candidates.

To celebrate the moment, the Democratic National Convention Committee has surprisingly released a music video.

The party released an a cappella cover of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, and it’s packed with heavyweight Hollywood and Broadway stars.

It features a number of musical and theatrical legends (Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Ellen Greene and Alan Cumming) as well as a number of big acting names (Eva Longoria, Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson).

A release explained: “Tonight, the Democratic National Convention Committee released a new video, ‘Fight Song’, which aired for the first time at the Democratic National Convention.

“‘Fight Song’, produced by Elizabeth Banks, Bruce Cohen and Mike Thompkins, features actors, musicians and supporters singing their support for Hillary Clinton to Rachel Platten’s Fight Song. The a cappella video is inspired by the Pitch Perfect films, which are produced by Banks.

“Fight Song has been energising Clinton supporters at events around the country throughout the campaign, and reinforces Clinton’s proven record of fighting for all Americans and her commitment to tackling the big challenges we face as a country as president.

The participants include Aisha Tyler, Alan Cumming, America Ferrera, Ben Platt, Billy Porter, Chrissie Fit, Connie Britton, Elizabeth Banks, Ellen Greene, Esther Dean, Eva Longoria, Garrett Clayton, Hana Mae Lee, Ian Somerholder, Idina Menzel, Jaime King, Jane Fonda, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, John Michael Higgens, Josh Lucas, Julie Bowen, Kathy Najimy, Kelly Jackle, Kristin Chenoweth, Mandy Moore, Mary McCormack, Mary-Louise Parker, Mike Thompkins, Nikki Read, Rachel Platten, Renee Fleming, Rob Reiner, Shelley Regner, Sia, TR Knight.

HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN ENDORSES HILLARY CLINTON

Just days before election contests in Iowa and New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton has won the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign. 

The former U.S. secretary of state and first lady and her Republican opponents are featured in anew video that was released along with the endorsement, which can be viewed below. 

“I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign—the nation’s largest organization working to achieve full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans," said Clinton in an emailed statement. "Thanks to the Human Rights Campaign and millions of advocates across the country, we’ve made tremendous progress. But our work is far from over.”

HRC announced the endorsement in a statement on its website, saying it was unanimous among its 32 community leaders. HRC said Clinton would formally accept the group’s support from president Chad Griffin at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday.

Griffin made the case for Clinton as the Democratic nominee for president in a statement:

“All the progress we have made as a nation on LGBT equality -- and all the progress we have yet to make -- is at stake in November. In most states, LGBT people are still at risk of being fired, evicted or denied services simply because of who they are. Today, 63 percent of LGBT Americans report having experienced such discrimination, and we are seeing other troubling trends, from the onslaught of state and local anti-LGBT measures to the national scourge of anti-transgender violence to backsliding on HIV/AIDS prevention and youth homelessness. Against this backdrop, we’ve heard the leading Republican presidential candidates repeatedly threaten to block our progress, and to revoke, repeal, and overturn the gains we’ve made during President Obama’s two terms.

“While they fight to take us backwards, Hillary Clinton is fighting to advance LGBT equality across our nation and throughout the world. We are proud to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, and believe that she is the champion we can count on in November -- and every day she occupies the Oval Office.”

In the email from Clinton's campaign, the candidate laid out campaign promises of interest to the LGBT community: 

“As President, I will continue to fight alongside the LGBT community to pass the Equality Act. I’ll support efforts to allow transgender personnel to serve openly, and I’ll end the dangerous practice of 'conversion therapy' on minors. I’ll expand access to HIV prevention and treatment, and confront the epidemic of violence facing the transgender community, especially transgender women of color. And I’ll continue the efforts I led as Secretary of State to advance the human rights of LGBT people around the world."

The statement from HRC said the endorsement was based on answers provided by Clinton and her Democratic opponents, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley, to key issues “of concern to the community, demonstrated leadership on LGBT issues, and viability.” 

Not one Republican candidate responded with answers to the questionnaire, according to HRC.

HILLARY CLINTON: I WASN'T RAISED TO BELIEVE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE WAS POSSIBLE

Hillary Clinton has opened up about her changing views on same-sex marriage, after being challenged about her previous opposition to it.

The former Secretary of State and Democratic Presidential candidate is a strong supporter of LGBT rights, and strongly welcomed same-sex marriage in all 50 states earlier this year.

However, opponents have often raised questions of her change on the issue, having insisted in the Senate in 2004 that marriage is “a sacred bond between a man and a woman”

.

Her differing views were put to the candidate on Meet the Press, when she defended her evolution on the issue.

She said: “What I’ve always tried to do is say, what is the best decision I can think about making now?

“On same-sex marriage, like a lot of people, including our President, I did evolve.

“I was not raised to even imagine this, and I’m thrilled now that it is the law of the land – I have a lot of good friends who are now able to be married because of the changes we’ve made legally and constitutionally.”

The former First Lady announced her support for equal marriage back in 2013 – and has consistently shown her support for LGBT issues since.

She was endorsed before she even declared her candidacy by pro-LGBT group Equality California – more than a year before the polls open in November 2016.

However, amid a challenge from fellow Democrat Bernie Sanders, she has haemorrhaged support from the gay community – sliding from solid favourite to second choice in polls conducted on hook-up app Grindr.

Hillary Clinton‘s latest ad hones in on last Wednesday night’s CNN Republican presidential primary debate, focusing on a laundry list of issues close to Democrats’ hearts that nonetheless failed to be broached at any point during the not-so-animate arguments: paid family leave, affordable child care and college education, equal pay for women, and protecting voting rights.

However, the ad does emphasizes how eager each presidential candidate is to defund Planned Parenthood, repeal ObamaCare, and vilify, yes, Hillary Clinton.

HILLARY CLINTON ATTENDS FIRST LGBT FUNDRAISER FOR PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has attended her first LGBT fundraiser of the Presidential campaign.

The former Secretary of State – who is running to run to succeed Barack Obama in the White House in 2016 last night attended a fundraiser in Washington DC hosted by a lesbian couple – and attended by mostly LBT women.

Around 120 people attended the event at the Woman’s National Democratic Club, with tickets for the “intimate fundraiser” costing around $2,700 per head.

The event was hosted by Claire Lucas and her partner Judy Dlugacz – who run lesbian travel company Olivia.

The pair told Huffington Post that the event would mainly be attended by lesbians.

The former Secretary of State announced her support for equal marriage  back in 2013 – and has consistently shown her support for LGBT issues.

She has already been endorsed last month by pro-LGBT group Equality California – more than a year before the polls open in November 2016.

Last year, she claimed in a memoir that she was “ridiculed” by Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni when she confronted him about Uganda’s anti-gay legislation.

She wrote: “When I raised these issues with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, he ridiculed my concerns. ‘Oh Hillary, here you go again’ he would say.”

In 2011, Clinton gave a groundbreaking speech to a United Nations summit in Geneva on LGBT rights.

In her Geneva speech, Clinton said: “Some seem to believe it is a western phenomenon and therefore people outside the west have grounds to reject it.

“Well, in reality gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world.

“They are all ages, all races, all faiths, they are doctors and teachers, farmers and bankers, soldiers and athletes.

“Whether we know it, whether we acknowledge it, they are our family, our friends and our neighbours. Being gay is not a western invention, it is a human reality.”

GAY MAN STARTS BOTTOM FOR HILLARY CAMPAIGN

A gay man from San Francisco has launched the Bottom for Hillary campaign, which he describes as a fun way for LGBTI people to show their support for the presidential candidate.

Ryan, 23, said the campaign started as a tipsy conversation between friends – all gay men who support Clinton – that quickly escalated into an Instagram account and T-shirts emblazoned with 'I'd Bottom For Hillary.'

'I am supporting Hillary because she is a boss that gets shit done,' he told the Huffington Post.

Ryan said you did not have to be gay – or a bottom – to join the campaign. It is more a state of mind.

'Bottoming demands trust, admiration, confidence, loyalty, respect, enthusiasm and hope,' he explained. 'Those feelings we have toward Hillary, and anyone that feels similar can be apart of our effort.'

Ryan said gay men who understood the joke had responded well and added that a surprising number of Republicans had also followed his Instagram account.

'I don’t think they fully understand the statement that is being made!' he said.

HILLARY CLINTON INVITED TO THE WEDDING OF GAY COUPLE FEATURED IN HER AD

A gay couple featured in Hillary Clinton’s recently released campaign video have invited the 2016 Presidential hopeful to their upcoming wedding.

In a video launching her Presidential campaign yesterday, the Democratic hopeful featured a range of Americans discussing their plans for the future, including Jared Milrad and his partner who spoke about their plans to marry.

After the high-profile launch, Mr Milrad decided to tweet his thanks to Clinton for their inclusion in the video – and showed his appreciation by inviting her along to their big day

HILLARY CLINTON LAUNCHES PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN WITH VIDEO FEATURING GAY COUPLE

Hillary Clinton has formally announced her plans to run for President of the United States again in 2016.

In a video, Mrs Clinton declared: “I am running for president”.

“Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times,” she said, “but the deck is still stacked in favour of those at the top.

“Everyday Americans need a champion and I want to be that champion,” she added.

The video features a variety of Americans talking about their preparations for the future including a gay couple who are to marry.

The former Secretary of State, who previously sought the Democratic nomination in 2008 but lost out to Barack Obama, made the announcement today in an announcement on social media.

She is the first senior Democrat to announce her run, though a number of Republicans – including Jeb Bush and Rand Paul – have already done so.

Despite only announcing her campaign today, Ms Clinton has been rumoured to be making a second run at the Presidency for years.

She was endorsed last month by pro-LGBT group Equality California– more than a year before the polls open in November 2016.

Clinton has proved popular with the LGBT community – being named ‘Ally of the Year’ by users of hook-up app Grindr in 2014.
