¿WHY NOT ADAM N’ STEVE?

SISSY, FAGGOT, PUNK, HOMO, QUEER, B!TCH ASS NIGGER…those are just some of the things they call us. If I had a dollar for every time one of these words pierced my spirit I would be well on my way to personal financial freedom. Certainly the money could never be fair compensation for the emotional and psychological damage that was the true cost of such cruel expressions of hatred and ignorance. Unfortunately, these are the words homophobes, gay bashers and ordinary people use to describe gay men when they seek to emasculate us. The impact of such defamation leads gay men on a journey in search of manhood (or masculine identity), a destination that can only be found if we choose to man up by being with a woman. This leaves gay men wondering, ‘am not I a man?”

In the creation story recorded in Genesis, Adam was created in Genesis 2:7 and Eve was created in Genesis 2:18. It is critical to note that eleven verses come in between the creation of Adam and that of Eve. Importantly, in these eleven verses God builds Adam’s home, the Garden of Eden, and he gives Adam the job of dressing and keeping the garden. Here is the validation of his manhood and ours. Adam had a sense of self and purpose that was not connected to his existence as a sexual being. In fact, the questions stand up, was Adam a sexual being in these eleven verses before Eve was created? When did Adam become a sexual being? Apparently, whenever it happened the timing was irrelevant to God giving Adam a sense of duty and personal responsibility for his task in the garden. Adam’s sense of self was in development before Eve. Hence, Adam was Adam because he was Adam not because he was not Eve. Adam was a man because he was a man not because he was not a woman. I, like Adam, am a man because I am a man; my manhood, like Adam’s, is defined by my character and my sense of personal responsibility.

This concept of male identity does not support the heterosexual claim of owning the image of God based on sexual orientation - manhood or male identity is now detached from the heterosexual experience. Now, the asexual man and the eunuch have a place in the spectrum of validated male identity. The impact of this enlightened perspective is that women are no longer the benchmark or vehicle in understanding male identity. This implies that I am no longer a man because I have a woman, but I am a man because I possess godly virtues.

This understanding of self negates the emasculation of people based on sexual orientation and fosters a redefinition of manhood which is separate from sexual orientation. Given this paradigm shift, sexual orientation and the physical and emotional manifestations of masculinity can now be properly categorized as biological and social character traits - not the be and end all of masculinity. I believe gay men have enough evidence to answer the question, CAN ADAM HAVE STEVE? The answer, of course, is a resounding YES!

HEAL THE WORLD

"Heal the World" is a song from Michael Jackson's hit album, Dangerous, released in 1991. The music video features children living in countries suffering from unrest especially Burundi. It is also one of only a handful of Michael Jackson's videos not to feature Jackson himself, the others being "Cry", "HIStory" and "Man in the Mirror". (The clips for "HIStory" and "Man in the Mirror" only feature Michael Jackson in archival footage).[1] Jackson performed the song in the Super Bowl XXVII halftime show with a 35,000 person flash card performance.

In a 2001 Internet chat with fans, Jackson said "Heal the World" is the song he is most proud to have created. He also created the Heal the World Foundation, a charitable organization which was designed to improve the lives of children. The organization was also meant to teach children how to help others. This concept of 'betterment for all' would become a centerpiece for the Dangerous World Tour. In the documentary Living with Michael Jackson, Jackson said he created the song in his "Giving Tree" at Neverland Ranch.

An ensemble performance of "We Are the World" and "Heal the World" closed Jackson's memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on July 7, 2009. The song was performed as rehearsed by Jackson at the venue just days earlier, in preparation for his planned "This Is It" tour in London along with "Dirty Diana". Ciara, an R&B singer sung this song at the BET Awards 2009. Jennette McCurdy, is performing this duet with Brittany Hargest of Jump5 from her new album.

The song was played at the funeral of James Bulger[2], and Jackson also donated the song to be used as the anthem for the charity the James Bulger Red Balloon Center, a school for children to go if they are being bullied or have learning difficulties[3].

¿JUST LIKE YOU?

¿DO YOU EVER THINK THE WORLD WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER IF OTHERS WERE JUST LIKE YOU IN SOME WAYS? I DON'T THINK THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE LIKE EACH OTHER BUT SOMETIMES...

MADIEYE DIALLO – ABUSED AFTER DEATH!

THIES, Senegal – the story of Madieye Diallo, an activist and gay organization leader whose body and grave was desecrated because he was gay. While Diallo was not killed by the homophobes, it is because of their heinous actions, fear, and pure hatred fortified by religion that he is dead.

Everyone on this planet should be in lament and outrage!!! If anyone should have sympathy on people having to live their lives on the run in safe-houses out of fear of the oppressing power is us. We are continually fighting over homosexuality in our communities as if it is an “us versus them” issue. We ARE you, and YOU are us. We may never agree about this issue, but just looking at the horrors and injustices that fear and hatred can create; we should want to erase that anxiety and revulsion to create a truly free and liberated future for ALL of us.

Diallo and his family did not deserve for him to live his last days in safe-houses in fear. Diallo and his family did not deserve for him to be unable to take his HIV meds because he couldn’t attend his doctor appointments out of fear of being in public where he might be killed. Diallo and his family did not deserve for him to die in a coma at
5:50am on May 2, 2009. Diallo and his family did not deserve for the mosque to turn them away and deny him a proper burial because he was gay. Diallo and his family did not deserve for his body to be dug up, spit on, and tossed in front of their home like a bag of trash.

To everyone that reads this, please repost this for others to read. Diallo’s organization was named Ligay, which means “Working Together”. Let all of us work together to erase hatred in our hearts, minds, and spirits by no longer accepting the status quo. No longer can we GLBTQ Men and Women allow people to degrade us or tell us that we are “no good” or “less than”. We must remember that WE are OVERCOMERS that have many more battles to fight than just those based on skin color and hair texture.

We MUST fight through organized action and boldness. We must step out from the safety and imprisonment of “the closet”. We must show the world that WE are much more than the comedic relief and a part of women’s accessories. We are human beings that deserve the same dignity and respect that everyone else deserves.

Why can’t we just live and let live? Why can’t we just be accepted? Why can’t we just be? Let us stand up for those who are afraid to go home…Those who are nervous when they notice folks looking @ a male in a tight pair of jeans…Those that walk into a church and the pastor, decides to preach his “love-the-sinner- hate-the-sin” sermon. Well, what happens when the “sin” is you?

It is frustrating putting entries like this out there when my mere words are NOT doing justice to the sadness, anger, and sorrow I feel in my heart. It extremely pains me to know that there exists grown men who still live their lives in fear of coming out because it may ruin the lives they have built. It sickens me to know that kids are being killed because they are presumed gay at school. When will all of this stop?!

The tears have dried on my face, but still rain heavily in my heart. One day I will be able to apply these emotions toward the efforts to truly make this world a better place.

STINGS…¿MORE OR LESS?

As long as society is anti-gay, then it will seem like being gay is anti-social. – Joseph Francis

So my question to you is does homophobic remarks, comments, feelings and thoughts hurt the more OR less when it comes from a…

MAN…

¿OR?

…WOMAN

PUTTING THE "R" IN RELIGION...

In the same way that religion drowns out the reality check saying that not questioning anything is right, it drowns out the reality check saying that HATING homosexual folks is wrong…And how wonderful it is to see how ‘God’ fearing folks live when they are VULNERABLE to such fraud! When people are taught that believing things without proof or evidence makes you a good person, they become far more vulnerable to fraud, manipulation, and deception. So is it any surprise that when a man like me (anti-religious, homosexual) encourages the ‘God’ fearing folks to let go of what religion has taught them because it is MUCH better to trust their feelings, I, the unholy homosexual become THE synonym for ‘sinner.’

Now they in turn compete with me the ‘sinner’ because of years of both religious and societal influences that have shaped things thus far, but if they were to examine their beliefs, they would notice that they are ONLY as righteous as I am hell bound…meaning because of their ignorance towards us, it seems as if they simply CANNOT exist if we didn’t…How else would you explain religious leaders in America protesting the funerals of fallen soliders? I get the fear; I REALLY do, but why fear me because I embrace the fullness of who I am as an individual? Is it because you aren’t getting my weekly offering to the collection plate? Has to be…RIGHT? I mean it is between the universe and I how I decide to live my life as an adult .…But I suppose it is only natural that the pendulum swings out of balance so that we may have the experience of what is it like to live a life based on something man made.

What kind of ‘God’ would regard hatred, envy, criticism, and judgment as things to be proud of? We are all gifts from the universe and though we may not like each other, we should ACCEPT the fact that we need each other and that is the ONLY thing that frees the soul. So many of us trust in a higher power for everything, then accept man’s word…C’mon we all MUST exist for a reason…RIGHT? Too often we reject the wonderful array of humans on this planet because we believe that who they are or what they represent serves NO purpose or is at odds with what ‘God’ wants. Most of the religious folks go to church, but do NOT lose themselves in spirituality because there is NO value in it, if it isn’t done how religious leaders say it ought to be done…It is precisely because so much of life is inescapably UNEXPLAINED, that we should look to every part of society to find out as much as we can about our spiritual selves.

Nonetheless, religious barriers have given me the freedom to pursue my development apart from those whose approval I don’t seek out. I know that as the worlds evolve, lives gradually become entwined, but I will not disregard the barrier because to do so is to sacrifice my independence. It is my respect for the fact that our lives exist independently of the lives of others that allows me to set spiritual boundaries, to explore my interests and capabilities even when those close to me do not understand their prejudices. I relentlessly fight the temptation to follow the religious crowd and I fear that others don’t because they want to be liked, accepted, and admired…all to the approval of others. So when they assume that their standards are the same as those they align with, they do themselves a disservice because they are NOT examining their own intentions. Each of us is a piece of a larger puzzle. I don’t know about you, but when I see religious folks protesting Gay Rights, I will smile because they don’t realize that we put the “R” in religion…

TODAY IS SUMMER LEISURE DAY!
