MAKING FRIENDS AS GAY ADULTS

One thing no one tells you about being an adult is how lonely you will be. People tell you about the responsibilities, the hard work in front of you, hell, they even tell you all the possible STDs you can get from unprotected sex. But for some reason, people seem to gloss over the fact that it’s really, really hard to make friends as an adult. And, as a result, a lot of gay men I know are lonely.

Romantic relationships are arguably easier to find because there’s a physical attraction or at least the promise of one. Gay men are motivated to find romantic relationships, so they’re more open to talking to strangers in restaurants or at a function with who they find intriguing. But if I’m in a dimly lit bar one Saturday night, and I see a man my age across the way, and I want to get to know him (strictly on a platonic basis), what do I do? Buy him a drink? Compliment his outfit? Try to get his number?

In a world full of #squadgoals and selfies, it can be hard to admit that it is difficult to maintain or begin a friendship with other gay men. Do you find it hard to make friends as adult gay men?

FRIENDS & FAMILY ATTEND GEORGE MICHAEL'S FUNERAL AS HE IS FINALLY BURIED

Friends and family attended a small, private ceremony as George Michael’s funeral has finally taken place.

The beloved Wham! singer and gay artist died on Christmas Day last year.

He was 53.

A statement from his publicist: ‘We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today.

‘Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved son, brother and friend.

‘George Michael’s family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support.’

The gay star sold more than 100 million albums with his group and as a solo artist, becoming known for songs like Careless Whisper, Faith, and Last Christmas.

Stories of Michael’s generosity emerged after his death, including donating a lot of money to charities like Childline, Terrence Higgins Trust and National AIDS Trust.

PULSE ANNIVERSARY TO BE DEDICATED IN ORLANDO AS "'DAY OF LOVE & KINDNESS"

City and county officials in Orlando, Fla., want the one-year anniversary next June of the Pulse nightclub massacre to be marked with acts of love and kindness.

Elected officials on Monday said that June 12 officially would be dedicated as “Orlando United Day — A Day of Love and Kindness.”

Officials also announced a series of events planned throughout the day on June 12.

An exhibit of artwork collected from memorial sites set up around Orlando after the massacre will be shown at the Orange County History Center, followed by a memorial service at the site of the former gay nightclub.

Another memorial ceremony will be held in the evening around downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola.

Forty-nine people died in the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history; dozens more were injured.

In other news related to the massacre on Monday, a lawsuit brought by victims against the gunman’s employer and wife is being withdrawn from federal court and filed in state court in South Florida.

Attorneys for 61 Pulse victims and family members of those killed filed the lawsuit in state court in Palm Beach County, Fla., on Monday.

The change in venues was made just days after a federal judge said in an order that he doubted federal court was the proper jurisdiction for the case.

The lawsuit claims Omar Mateen’s employer, security firm G4S, and Noor Salman, Mateen’s widow, could have stopped the gunman before the attack last June but didn’t.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK'S SAMIRA WILEY & LAUREN MORELLI TIE THE KNOT

Samira Wiley, the star of Orange is the New Black, and Lauren Morelli, a writer on the show, got married Saturday in Palm Springs, Calif.

The wedding, which was confetti-themed, was officiated by Wiley's parents, reported Martha Stewart Weddings. The couple's song at the wedding during the recessional was Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," while the song that played during their receptance entrance was Justin Bieber's "Baby." 

The location where the wedding took place was also the same location where Morelli first asked Wiley to marry her. This is Morelli's second marriage after she divorced her husband when she realized she was queer, back in 2012, reported People. Morelli and Wiley met while working on Orange is the New Black together.
